Charlie Gladwin played football for Sunderland. His debut was at Roker Park on 12th October, 1912. He made 61 appearances with Sunderland the last was on 29th February, 1915. He was in the team which in 1913 won the league championship for the fifth time, and in the FA Cup final against Aston Villa they only lost by one goal to Aston Villa. He was presented with a gold medal by "Athletic News" 1912-13 for Distinction in Football. After the first world war he went to Watford and then became coach. It is reported that he had an unsuccessful cartilage operation that resulted in his leg being amputated. After this, he went back down the pit as a train driver
.John Hallatt, in 1953 at the age of 14 then a scholar at Treeton school, was chosen to play full back for England in the Schoolboys International match Ireland v England at Belfast on 30th May, 1953.
Freddie Higginbottom, known in the professional wrestling world as Young Vulcan. He fought in halls and clubs throughout the country.
Lewis Payne, born in Treeton. On 2/04/1927 at the age of 19, he won the International Cross Country Race at Newport South Wales, beating the French champion Seghir Baddari.

Jesse Pye, born in Treeton, after war service in North Africa and in Italy he joined Notts. County and later transferred to Wolverhampton Wanderers. He played inside right for England in 1946 at Wembley - England v Belgium.His grandson, is an official of Treeton Cricket Club.>>more
